Value for Money

McDonald’s and Domino’s Value For Money?

The reason McDonald’s and Domino’s does so well in India is because they offer value for money.

What I mean to say is that the general population can afford the food. The other day I saw a rickshaw driver with no passenger going into a McDonald’s drive through and that’s when I thought of conducting an experiment.

Which McDonald’s Fries should you order?

Small, Medium or Large?

At first, I thought it would be as easy as ordering one of each, then counting the number of fries and dividing by the price but it’s the weight we have to calculate. So, I waited for a time when I would order McDonald’s with my friends and they would agree to order one of each (small, medium and large). And finally, when that day came, I got an electronic weighing scale and all the fries in their respective containers and took the readings:

Small Medium Large
Weight (in grams) 89 100 119
Price (in ₹) 60 90 105

Now all that’s left to do is divide the weight by the price and see how many grams of fries you are getting per rupee.

For Small, 89g/₹60 = 1.48 g/₹

For Medium, 100g/₹90 = 1.11g/₹

For Large, 119g/₹105 = 1.13g/₹

All to 2 decimal places.

This means that small fries are by far the best and the most value for money and I am never ordering another medium or large in my life.

Of course, you might say that small fries are not enough quantity and you need at least a medium to fill your stomach but it’s much better ordering 2 small then. I noticed that the cost of 3 small and 2 medium is the same and you are getting a crazy 67g more with 3 small as compared to 2 mediums.

I agree that every McDonald’s might have a different price across cities and will have slightly different quantities but they won’t differ by a lot according to me and small will always still be the best.

Now let’s take a look at Domino’s.

Would you believe it if I told you that you are paying to remove toppings? Read that again. You are paying more to remove toppings.

Well, it is true.

The above is an order I would like to present where I added one Margherita (which everyone generally orders), one Farmhouse pizza (which my sister likes to order), one Golden Corn pizza mania (which I like to order), and one tomato pizza mania (what you should order) to my cart.

I have made sure that all of them are the same size and same crust. I also got this ridiculous pop up given below. Add more cheese to a cheese pizza for half the pizzas price? I don’t think so.

So, what I claimed to say was true indeed. You are paying 40 rupees more to remove tomatoes if you think about it.

So, what is the conclusion of all of this?

The conclusion is that we think we are getting value for our money in Dominos and McDonald’s when we order the regular items like medium fries and a margherita when they are actually ripping us off with these by charging us more.

Anyways these are just my views.

Comment if you would like to see my thoughts on Starbucks and Subway.

Thanks for reading!
