Free Money ?

Recently on TV, there was an advertisement of My11Circle in which from just 1 rupee the first prize is Rupees 1 Crore.

The criterion for winning is to make the best team of 11 out of 22 players that are playing on the given day in the IPL. If you make the best team, you win Rupees 1 Cr.

It’s that simple.

So, I thought to myself how can I guarantee a victory for myself. I mean what’s the total number of teams I needed to make, to make sure that one of them secures first place.

The total number of possible teams that could be made is simply 22C11 which comes to 7,05,432 teams, so about 7 lakh teams.

Now that is interesting, because somehow if I manage to make the 7 lakh teams, I guarantee myself a prize of 1 Crore. That’s a profit of about 93 lakhs per day and that’s insane. All that is left is to figure out a way to make the teams because its 1 rupee per team, so 7 lakh rupees and 1 Crore winning prize.

I am decent in using computers but not in programming. All I need is for someone to build a program to somehow make 7 lakh teams covering all possible options and in today’s world of programming and coding it shouldn’t be too hard. I just cracked the system.

But wait it gets better.

In every team you make, you need a minimum of 1 Wicket-Keeper, 3 Batsman, 1 All-Rounder, and 3 bowlers. This reduces the total number of possible teams to make. And after 2 hours of some complicated calculations, I found the exact number of possible teams which I don’t remember exactly but it was about to 2 lakhs.

So, 2 lakh possible teams and if I make them, I get a profit of 98 lakhs per match day. It gets to around 1 lakh teams if you are willing to risk not taking a few players in the team at all because you are confident that they will not play well but that’s Gambling and that’s a topic for another of my thoughts.

But then I started thinking, beating their system can’t be this easy. And then it struck me. One small addition to the team making process is going to cost me a lot of money. For every team you make there must be a captain and a vice-captain. The captain gets 2x points and the vice-captain gets 1.5x points. Now it may not seem like much but when you add this captain and vice-captain, we multiply the total number of possible teams with 11P2. 11P2 is 110. This means that now the total number of possible teams with the combination of captain and vice-captain is 2 lakh times 110 which is 2,20,00,000 (2 Crore, 20 lakhs). So now we invest 2 Crore, 20 lakhs with the return of 1 Crore and that’s not looking very good.

This is not looking at the fact that we won’t know the 22 players to choose out of until half an hour before the match starts and we have to make the teams before the match starts.
Nothing is free in life!

I became a little excited at the idea of this possibly working and got deviated from my school work. But I will take the positives from it. Who knows someday I might actually crack the system if I keep trying to think out of the box.
Thanks for reading!

Thank you

  1. I remember you coming to me to convince dad, to build a program that can auto-generate those required teams for you
